The Causes of Stomach Pain

Pain in the stomach can be caused by many things, though seem trivial sometimes the pain is a sign of a serious illness. What causes pain in the stomach?


Stomach pain can occur for a while, intermittent or appear at certain times only. Dr. Vivek Kaul, head of the division of gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York said there are several causes of pain in the the stomach, as quoted from the Health, Thursday (08/03/2012):

1. Gallstone
Gallstones form in the gallbladder, the stones cause swelling and block the intestinal tract causing pain. Gallstone pain tends to strike the right upper abdomen, especially after eating fatty foods because it triggers the gallbladder contraction.

2. pancreatitis
Inflammation of the pancreas can cause burning pain in the upper abdomen or the middle, some people even felt shooting pain up the back. Usually people leaning forward or lying on your back to reduce pain and relieve pain, nausea and vomiting.

3. GERD
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) causes pain in upper the stomach and lower chest or pain in the gut. Cause the valve that separates the stomach from the esophagus is weak so that food and stomach acid can rise to the top. Eating too much food or fatty foods may aggravate the situation.

4. lactose intolerance

5. Drug side effects
Oral bisphosphonates are useful to help maintain bone density and prevent osteoporosis can cause swelling and pain in the esophagus. While pain medications known as NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and aspirin can cause swelling in the lining of the stomach.

6. Intestinal inflammation (diverticulitis)

7. endometriosis

8. Appendicitis

9. Wound in the stomach
Sores or ulcers in the stomach and duodenum (first part of the small intestine) is the cause of abdominal pain utaam. Pain usually affects middle upper abdomen and sometimes occur after eating. Wound in the duodenum sometimes wake up at night due to illness.

10. stress
Stress can cause headaches, high blood pressure, insomnia and stomach problems. Besides depression has been linked to digestive problems and irritable bowel syndrome. Depression can cause the stomach pain, but the constant the stomach pain.

11. food poisoning
This condition can be caused by food poisoning caused by viruses or bacteria, usually causing abdominal pain with diarrhea and vomiting. In rare cases, food poisoning can be serious or fatal.
